Whether summer is right around the corner or you are just looking to enhance your regular skincare routine, oftentimes, our feet don’t get the extra love they deserve. They carry the brunt of our weight from day to day and are constantly exposed to the sun when we wear sandals or hugged in the cutest pair of heels for extended periods of time. Having smooth feet in a cute pair of shoes is a must. In addition to making sure my feet are moisturized, I discovered a secret hack to soften my feet overnight. Now this hack will not result in baby bottom smooth feet overnight, but they will be much smoother than they were the night before. Getting smoother feet is not a one and done process, but rather a continual routine that you want to do in order to achieve and maintain the results that you’re looking for, just like anything else in skincare.
To make this a reality, you’re going to need three items for this routine, which will be done after your bath or shower; lactic acid, healing ointment, fuzzy socks. As a maintenance bonus, add foot cream, a foot peel, and exfoliating gloves to your list.
First thing’s first, while you’re in the shower, use your exfoliating gloves and gently exfoliate the top and the bottom of your feet. You want to be gentle to avoid cutting the skin since you’ll be using a chemical exfoliator in this routine. Once you’re out of the shower, add a few drops of lactic acid to your feet while they are slightly damp to allow the most penetration possible and rub into your feet. Follow up the routine by layering a quarter size amount of healing ointment. Use this opportunity to really give love to your feet by giving yourself a mini foot massage.
After you’ve rubbed in your healing ointment, grab your fuzziest pair of socks and put them on before you jump in the bed. This will help with keeping the ointment and lactic acid on your feet for maximum penetration overnight.
In the morning, do your morning routine making sure you wash the remaining healing ointment off your feet. This will help avoid any slips and/or falls that may happen throughout the day depending on the kind of shoes that you are wearing. This routine can be done once a week in addition to your regular self-care routine. To maintain the results, you can use a foot cream that contains AHAs to continue moisturizing and exfoliating. Additionally, using a foot peel like Baby Feet can help reach optimum softness on your feet.
